Orthodox Jews Criticize the Move by Hollywood Stars to Join Kabbalah

There has been a rapid increase in the number of Hollywood stars showing interest in the Jewish mysticism, Kabbalah. This sudden attraction was started by Madonna who joined and studied the ancient Jewish tradition. Other stars, including Marilyn Monroe, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Sammy Davis, Sandra Bernhard and Elizabeth Taylor have also showed interest in the Jewish Kabbalah. These non-Jewish stars are converting to Judaism for several reasons. Madonna, who has opened more than one Kabbalah center, said that she joined the tradition in order to fulfill its teachings of helping others. Others, including Nick Carter, got involved with Kabbalah to seek peace from their chaotic lives or get family connections. However, many Orthodox Jews have harshly criticized the move claiming that Kabbalah is only meant to be taught to Jewish individuals who are above the age of 40. They wrote a letter to the Kabbalah Center in Los Angels to condemn the act of selling Kabbalistic materials to non-Jews and more information click here.

About Kabbalah Center

Kabbalah is an ancient wisdom that offers people tools for creating happiness and lasting fulfillment. These teachings, which are offered at Kabbalah Center, are based on the sacred kabbalistic text, the Zohar. The Zohar elaborates the mysteries and the spiritual system of the universe, as described in the Torah (Bible). The teachings offer the deepest understanding of the purpose of creation and the essence of God and his interaction on earth. The Kabbalah Center community helps learners to grow spiritually by giving them a platform to exchange ideas and develop meaningful relationships with like-minded individuals and learn more about Kabbalah.

Kabbalah was established in 1922 by the first kabbalistic master, Rav Yehuda Ashlag. He set up the first Kabbalah Center in Jerusalem with the aim of modernizing the guarded wisdom and making it available to others seeking to find peace from the chaos of the world. After he passed on, Rav Yehuda was succeeded by Rav Brandwein. The torch was later passed to Rav Berg, who is the current director of Kabbalah Center. The network has now expanded to 50 locations across the world with over 5,000 students. Kabbalah Center offers both online and offline teachings in form of lectures, books, prayer services, DVD’s and CD’s, and downloads and Kabbalah’s lacrosse camp.
