Securus Technologies acquires payment processor GovPayNet

I’m excited to announce that Securus Technologies has acquired the major government payment processor GovPayNet. Securus Technologies provides technological solutions for public safety organizations as well as government services. The company provides services for 3,500 public safety agencies and is based out of Texas. GovPayNet, founded in 1997 by a sheriff, allows users to pay for actions such as tax payments, traffic violations, and vehicle registrations. They are currently used in 45 states, including the District of Columbia, and over 25% of counties in the United States.

Securus Technologies, featuring the team of Mark MacKenzie, have more than 20 years of experience working with the public service and safety sector. I fully believe when they say their aim is to continue to stand on their payment solutions to those using government services. As a result of the GovPayNet acquisition, they are now able to process payments for over 40 million consumers each year.

Securus also acquired JPay in 2015, providing the company with the ability to provide services for over 1 million inmates in more than 2,500 correctional institutions. This acquisition allowed them to join forces in segments such as payments for services, email services for the inmates, as well as technology such as tablets. Securus and JPay believe their connections will allow them to reduce the rate of recidivism while making the prison system more efficient and safer for the inmates. I’m also excited to see that the two companies are working together to ease the transition of inmates from prison to the free world outside of a cell.
