Roc Nation to Split From Live Nation

Over the past 10 years, one of the most dominating teams in the music industry has been the joint venture created by Jay-Z and Live Nation. Jay-Z is well known for being one of the most successful musicians and music producers of all time and Live Nation is well known for being the go-to option for booking music venues and planning tours. The deal, which paid Jay-Z over $150 million over a 10 year period, will not be extended.  Check pagesix.com for additional article.

While the deal has been very successful for all parties involved, it appears that all sides are looking to go in different directions. Live Nation has stated that they would like to continue to work with Jay-Z when it comes to touring and event planning, but the company will no longer be interested in producing music. This agreement will include all acts that fall under Jay-Z’s company, Roc Nation, which includes Fat Joe, Shakira, and Rhianna.

The decision came within the last few weeks and was led largely by Jay-Z’s business manager Desiree Perez. Desiree Perez is well regarded as being one of the best businessman in the music industry. Now that the contract with Live Nation is reaching an end, Desiree Perez will be looking for other options. This could include coming up with a new limited agreement with Live Nation, but will also include shopping their business to other companies as well. The general thought is that Roc Nation could get an even better deal if they start from scratch with a new company. This is largely due to the success that they have had in developing new artists.
